Press/Reviews

Power pop with a bit of a bite to the guitars is always welcome around these parts. When it includes gritty-yet-sweet vocals (imagine a less sandpapery Rod Stewart) and songs that you can sing along and play air guitar to (see “Got No Reason”), you know you’ve got a keeper. The title cut and “We’ll Be Together” are my faves today, but each of the 10 songs is good or better, no fuss, no muss. - See more at: http://www.goldminemag.com/blogs/top-20-releases-2013

Nick Piunti “13 in My Head”
Nick Piunti earned my respect when I heard his old band The Respectables. Starting with the anthemic riffs of the title tracks its a collection full of multi-layered guitars, and it continues on “On The Way Out” where Nick reminds me of Paul Westerberg crossed with Bryan Adams. He slows slightly for the excellent “Good Thing Going,” with its great chord shifts and harmonies in the chorus. “It All Comes Down” is a heartfelt and simple rocker “as it all comes down to your friends,” reminding me of The Candy Butchers.

“We’ll be Together” and “She’s a Good Time” amp things up again, and not a note of filler anywhere among the ten tracks. Even the heavier guitars on “Sleeping on The Pavement” remember to keep it melodic. No ballads here, but the tempo varies enough to keep things from getting routine. I hope Nick stays “13″ and gives us more of this excellent melodic rock.  -Powerpopaholic, June 25, 2013  www.powerpopaholic.com

"Nick Piunti's new album, "13 in My Head", is an instant power pop classic.  High on harmonies, hooks and killer choruses, and with nods to The Beatles, Cheap Trick, Redd Kross, The Replacements, vintage Rod Stewart and Fountains of Wayne, it's guitar-heavy heaven. It's got more hooks than a butcher's warehouse.  I spoke to Nick about the making of the album and why when a song just seems to fall out of the sky, you need to be there to catch it...-Sean Hannam, Say It With Garage Flowers, UK.  www.sayitwithgarageflowers.wordpress.com/

Nick Piunti's Summer of 2013 release, is already lining up as one of the best PowerPop/Indie Pop/Rock albums of the year. I can’t think of a finer song I’ve heard in the last few months that typifies that classic ‘power pop’ sound than “On My Way Out”. -Bruce Brodeen, July 17, 2013.  www.popgeekheaven.com

Nick says...
"13 in My Head", My 2013 solo release, continues in the power pop traditions I displayed as singer, songwriter, guitarist in Detroit's "The Respectables".  Before calling it a day in 2011, The Respectables released two albums (and ep) with songs featured in television and film, and garnered plenty of praise from the power pop community.  Far from finished and armed with a batch of new songs, (but for the first time in years, without a band), I got together with good friend Ryan Allen ( Destroy This Place, Friendly Foes, Thunderbirds are Now) to share some new tunes and bounce around some ideas. Immediately it was obvious that this was a move in the right direction.  With more than enough songs for a new record, it was off to Big Sky Recording with producer Geoff Michael to lay down some guitar tracks to get the ball rolling.  At Geoff's suggestion Donny Brown (The Verve Pipe) was enlisted as the drummer for his obvious percussion skills, but also  for his gift with harmonies and production.  What started out as Garageband demos came to life with two (unrehearsed) recording sessions with Donny and Geoff in Ann Arbor.  I sang,  played the rhythm  guitars, (and half the leads), and  three bassists, Chris DuRoss, Todd Holmes (Chris Richards and The Subtractions) and Andy Reed (An American Underdog) completed the basic tracks.  Ryan Allen added some great guitar tracks and vocals on 5 of the album's  songs (including the 4 tunes he co-wrote) .  The ending result is 10 new, power pop, indie rock, get to the point, hook filled songs that came out even better than expected.  Not an easy task, and one that couldn't have been achieved  with out  these amazing guys.
